Montpellier to Arles

Monday 9th June
A quick breakfast. Rebekah loves the chocolate croissants - then to pick car up. Tricky place to find! Get sorted finally. A Renault Scenic - nice size for all the bags.
Fresh hot croissants - Yum!

We head for the beach - Palavas les Flots.
Everyone is there - so it seems and it's only Monday!
Lie in the sun for a bit and have a swim - a little bit cool but refreshing.

it's 32 degrees according to the car! Not the same burning heat as at home, but still too hot to sit in for too long.

Plenty of Pink Flamingos around here.

We continue on. Not far on is Aigues Mortes is another great example of a medieval village . Rampants at each corner of the village and lots of period buildings. Great ice cream stop too!

We are all a bit hot after that - another 30+ day we decide to head for our hotel in Arles and cool off. It has a pool. Thank goodness.
After cooling off we head into the village square. Arles was home to Vincent Van Gogh - he painted 180 of his paintings in the time he lived here.

Arles has a huge amount of Roman history. There is a colosseum and amphitheatre here and also relics of the wall the once surrounded the city. The colosseum was built 90AD and used mainly for chariot racing, nowadays houses bullfighting and concerts.

Time for dinner and a bit of Van Gogh Rose.

Followed by dessert!

The colosseum is stunning at night!

The Amphitheatre
There are dance rehearsals on and we get invited in to watch. Amazing feeling sitting on the old stone seats. Incredible.

End of another fabulous day!
