A bit of a sad start to the day saying goodbye to Rebekah at the Nice Airport. Last time we'll see he for a while. A few tears shed!
Goodbye to France - loved it. Saw a good cross section, but plenty more to see one day. Paris and St Emilion favourites for me!
Hello to Italy and Venice.
Arrive and catch vaporetto - water taxi to a canal near our hotel. Really hot and sticky when we arrive. Settle into our hotel and then off to find cold beer and pizza for lunch.
Venice is sure a labyrinth of tiny little lanes winding around canals. It's not long until you lose all sense of direction and everything looks the same and feels like you have crossed the same bridge a few times. Thank goodness for the signs on the side of buildings, which point to the main tourist sights.
St Mark's Basilica and Palazzo - beautiful paintings on the outside. Under repair at moment, as are lots of the historical buildings we have seen.
The Grand Canal - very busy waters. Gondolas, Vaporettos, Private boats.
The Rialto Bridge
It's a shoppers paradise if you have deep pockets! All the fancy shops and hundreds selling souvenirs and Murano glass - famous in Venice. Love it here definitely on the favourites list!
Weather has turned a bit. Really windy and just started to rain so looks like its a Gondola ride in the morning!
