Stari Grad to Hvar Town

Monday 30th June

It's a relatively short trip today to Hvar Town which is on the opposite side of the island to Stari Grad.

Hvar Town is a very popular stop with yachties and lots of the cruises around Croatia.

The Hvar Port authorities won't let boats dock til later in the after so we moor in one of the bays off the Pakleni Islands which is only a 5 minute boat taxi into Hvar Town. Nice spot for a swim stop.

This is a famous bar called the Carpe Diem. It is pretty much open air - a popular stop,for yachties.

You wouldn't want to have too many and slip on the rocks on the way home cos they are pretty sharp.

We catch the water taxi into town to explore the sights at about 3 before our boat docks at 5pm

A Castle/Fort sits on top of the hill overlooking the town. It dates to 16th century

It's another lovely town with a huge promenade which runs along the seafront. Lovely stone buildings and cobblestones, as is the norm around here. 

Some pretty nice boats lined up on the waterfront. It's very much the place to be seen on your flash boat around here.

Once we reach shore, it's time to explore! We head for the fort to take in the gorgeous views. Through the lanes and up a few steps. Lots of lovely little lanes and lovely buildings.

The cathedral is a 12th century building with a huge Placa (square) in front. Said to be the biggest in Croatia according to our guide.

The track up to the fort is worth it even in the heat. It takes us through lots more lanes and steps up, but the view is absolutely stunning.

In the distance you can see the Pakleni Islands. A very popular destination for yachts, for obvious reasons! Wouldn't mind one around here. So many beautiful bays.

Back down the hill and a bit of a drink stop and a bit more of a wander before heading to the boat to get changed for dinner. We find our boat moored right up front next to a huge super yacht in party central. Great to sit up on deck and do a bit of people watching.

We meet up with friends from the boat for dinner. Our dish of mussels in huge! 

Still we manage to walk the plank back on board after a few wines.
