Sun sparkling on the water when we head out of Vis. The fishing boats are in selling their goods.
Very popular with the locals. They only seem to have sardines in varying sizes - small to very small!
It's six hours of motoring to get to Korcula. So a very relaxing morning. A swim stop planned for after lunch in Knezia Bay - Korcula. Pretty excited to, heading to Korcula. It's where my mum's parents came from. Will ask around to see if I can find out something, but we really don't have much time.
The Port Authorities dictate docking times and today we don't get into port until 4.30pm.
Lots of little villages on the way in to Korcula Town
Not a bad spot to have a house!
Our swim stop at Knezia Bay - Korcula. You can see the steep mountains of the mainland in th background. it's not that far across on a ferry.
The views coming into Korcula Town are stunning. The town is an old castle, with walls and 4 ramparts at the corners.
The old town is actually quite small. About 800m from one side to the other. In the town is Marco Polo's house. He is said to have lived here until he was 15, when he moved to Italy. The Croatian's claim him as theirs!
The town is full of little shops, restaurants, as well as churches and houses.
The town entrance.
The view from upstairs , looking into the ruins - remainder of the rest of Marco Polo's house.
Streets in the old town.
The bell tower towers over town . We climbed to the top. Very narrow steps, but stunning views of the roofline and out to sea.
The view to the port
The sunset looking out to the North of Korcula and the point of the mainland.
Looking towards the mainland.
Now that's a good spot for a drink! Will, have to try that out!
And here we are! Wouldn't want too many drinks up here the steps are very steep.
They actually bring the drinks up on a dumb waiter up,the side of the turret.
The water's clear!
One of those was definitely enough - straight to the toes! Time for dinner.
We find a little restaurant in the castle. Get talking to waiter, show him our family tree and it's turns out his mother is also a Blitvich. I told him we could be cousins! He actually got quite excited - so did I and told his mates. He then brought me a book over with a picture of the village and the beach where the "Blitvich's" live called Pupnat. I really will have to come back here and dig a bit deeper.
Korcula is a big island and it certainly has lots more beautiful spots to check out.
We are entertained while we eat by some beautiful traditional singers. They are in the entry to the church and the acoustics are amazing.

That looks so cool
